Diet tips to help manage your cholesterol levels.

Talk to your doctor about how changes to your diet may help
increase your HDL (good cholesterol) level. These changes may
also help improve your LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

  • If you are overweight, reduce your intake of calories.
Calories come from fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and alcohol.

  • Reduce the amount of saturated fat, trans fat,
    and cholesterol you eat.

  • Reduce your intake of alcohol.

  • Try to eat fruits, vegetables, and nonfat or low-fat
    dairy products more often.

  • Substitute monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats – found in canola and olive oil, or liquid margarine – for saturated fats.

  • Substitute fish high in omega-3 fatty acids – such as salmon, albacore tuna, and sardines – for meats high in saturated fats.
